Job Description
To provide senior geosciences expertise to MOG’s business activities across the Middle East and Africa.
Specifically to lead on geosciences support to Asian ventures.
Job Requirements
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leadership
Provide technical leadership of functional objectives within the Geosciences by setting individual objectives, quality expectations, managing performance and contributing to formal and informal reviews, feedback and appraisals – in order to maximise exploration effectiveness and quality in Geoscience and the performance of the unit.
Provide training, mentoring and hiring input, recommendations and support for Geoscience in order to meet departmental objectives.
Coaching and mentoring to more junior staff
Individual objectives, training and development plans in place for all direct reports within the timescales defined by the corporate Performance Management process.
Frequency of reviews, feedback & appraisal meetings.
Staff and geoscience organisational readiness for tasks following training.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
Participation in the development of functional standards and common processes
Recommend improvements to departmental policy and direct the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of Geoscience activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.
Compliance with procedural and legislative requirements.
Effective communication of policies and procedures.
Evaluations of Opportunities, Technical Studies
Undertake independent technical evaluations of the highest technical standard of a regional or asset specific nature in support of Exploration, Business Development or Corporate Development.
Supervise or provide guidance and peer input as necessary on technical evaluations in support of Exploration, Business Development or Corporate Development.
Ensure implementation of appropriate workflows in accordance with MOG stated methodologies and procedures.
Thorough geophysical and/or geological evaluations of opportunities and Regional studies with appropriate documentation in place
Technical work and feedback delivered in timely and professional standard in accordance with MOG Methodology and processes.
Geoscience and Technical Expertise
Provision of expert advice in support of regional evaluations and new business development.
Coordinate all technical issues related to Geoscience tasks and planning, in support of activities in Exploration, Operation and Business Development.
Undertake and/or supervise independent technical evaluations including tasks of a Geophysical or Geological nature as necessary in support of assets, portfolio and strategy.
Participate in the evaluation of the technical data as required by MOG, including Exploration, Business Development and Operations.
Timely and high quality delivery of Geoscience technical evaluations and interpretations.
Timely advice on all technical matters
EP-AIM
Assist with the implementation of the EP-AIM Strategy in collaboration with peers, colleagues and the Manager of EP-AIM. Provide feedback to ensure that hardware / software is both appropriate and suited to the Geoscience needs of the Exploration and technical functions. Communicate with colleagues and Peers across the Company to help establish well developed lines of communication and feedback to the EP-AIM Manager.
Participate in, or Lead, technical assessments of Geoscience related software applications and provide feedback and insights to other geoscientists and the Manager of EP-AIM.
Provide insights and advice as necessary on building a corporate technical database addressing the needs of Geoscience.
Reliability and suitability of applications to required and anticipated tasks.
Updated and well maintained technical data base.
Appropriate recommendations for corporate software portfolio related to seismic domain.
Technical Quality Assurance
Provision of functional assurance through QC of work generated by partners and JOCs
Ensure all Geoscience activities, studies and evaluations have effective and efficient QA/QC and Peer review activities built into routine workflows.
Ensure all Technical evaluations managed from Abu Dhabi are carried out and delivered to the highest technical standards and in accordance with MOG guidelines and principles.
Timely technical Peer assists / Reviews, co-ordinated with MOG Peer Team. Informal Peer assists as required by stakeholders.
MOG Technical specialists accessed as required by teams and tasks during workflows
External Networks
Develop and maintain contacts with external Geoscience service providers and peer companies as well as business partners for development of effective relationships
Maintain familiarity with Peer Group activities in areas of interest and communicate with colleagues as necessary
Excellent vendor relationships for leveraging cost advantages.
Contributions to effective Competitive Intelligence is in place
Continuous Improvement
Stimulate, encourage and challenges peers and colleagues to innovate and participate in Geoscience related technology transfer initiatives across all offices. Recommend improvements in technical work flows, processes and practices where necessary.
Maintain awareness of Industry developments in international Geoscience ‘best practices’ and propose internal improvements where appropriate.
Number and quality of improvements are line with corporate expectations and implemented.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge:
A bachelor’s and ideally a Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics. In depth knowledge of the Oil and Gas business in geology and upstream exploration. Sound awareness of the local and international factors that affect the Oil and Gas E & P business.
Experience:
Min 15 years experience in the E & P industry with demonstrable proficiencies in Exploration Geosciences.
Skills:
Advanced Technical skills including interpretation (geophysical and geological), operations, non-seismic. Planning and resource allocation skills, good communication and presentation skills, good interpersonal skills.
COMPETENCIES:
Negotiating skills, innovative thinking, proactive, highly adaptable to change. Attention to detail, maturity, techno-commercial acumen, Team building.
