Job Requirements Description:
1. General description
· The Senior Piping Designer/Checker is responsible in the piping design with in-depth knowledge. Well versed with 2D and 3D cad software and familiar with international codes and standards and recommended practice. SPD will normally delegate technical and administrative task with piping designers and drafters such as manpower loading, work progress monitoring, quality check and review and ensure the timely issuance of engineering deliverables.
· The team approach is the desired supervisory style for task force work. He must monitor the effort closely and exert the necessary control to ensure that objectives are accomplished.
2. Key Responsibilities Include:
The following are general responsibilities of the SPD
a) Attitude And Philosophy
SPD shall be reporting to the Project Lead Piping/Lead Designer and must adhere in the management philosophy and goals so this is communicated in a positive manner to assigned personnel.
b) Communication
SPD shall interface and communicate with discipline engineer and participate in the discipline and inter-discipline clarification meetings as well as internal and external review meetings.
c) Schedule And Budgets
Ensure that contract requirements are completed within the limits established by both schedule and budget.
d) Supervision
Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned personnel and ensure that all work performed meets applicable codes, standards, specifications, and established company and industry practices.
e) Backup Assignment
It is vital for Client to develop people for advancement to Senior ship positions. It is also vital that the SPD have a person to stand in for them when they are absent. Therefore, SPD are responsible for having a backup person who is informed about the day-to-day activities on the project so that they can learn about supervisory duties and responsibilities, and so that they can continue with the Piping Designer/Checker’s work during an absence. The selection of a backup person will be made jointly with the Design staff.
f) Working Rules
Ensure that all assigned personnel are familiar with and follow the company working rules. Special attention should be given to ensuring punctuality of working hours and lunch periods, with necessary corrective action taken as required.
g) Performance Reviews And Counseling
Provide fair, constructive, and timely reviews and counseling for all assigned personnel. Formal performance reviews are done at least once each year. This process is initiated by the Design/Piping staff. The formal review is not a substitute for timely counseling as required on a day-to-day basis. Engineers and designers deserve feedback on their performance, both good and bad. The phrase, "No news is good news," should not characterize the SPD / subordinate relationship.
h) Standards
Maintain an awareness of departmental needs in the development or improvement of standards and procedures.
i) Safety
Ensure that all designs produced, and working conditions for all personnel, comply with adequate safety rules.
j) Innovation
Employees should strive to find better and more effective ways of accomplishing their work. SPD should encourage innovation but must make certain that the quality of work is not compromised. However, SPD must not deviate from approved standards and procedures without authorization from their discipline Management.
SPD must be cautious of innovative ideas that violate basic practices. Sometimes, innovative but unsound approaches are offered as a solution to an inadequate budget.
3. With proven competency, prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for variety of the following:
· Responsible for coaching, teaching, and effective supervision of assigned piping design personnel.
· Responsible for developing piping design estimates, schedules and staffing requirements.
· Responsible for developing piping design administrative and technical practices, specifications, and procedures.
· Responsible for Plot Plan development and maintenance.
· Assures that design continuity is maintained throughout the entire project.
· Reports to the project Piping Engineering Lead the status of piping design activities.
· Ensures communication flow, both verbal and written, is maintained within piping engineering and with other design and engineering disciplines.
· Coordinates piping design activities with other design and engineering groups.
· Identifies deviations in job scope, estimates magnitude of changes, and initiates deviation notices.
· Monitors and controls budget, schedule labor hours, costs, deviation notices, and progress.
· Prepares and distributes design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and drafting procedures.
· Represents piping design in meetings with suppliers, subcontractors, licensors, clients, and other Company disciplines, and produces documentation required for conference or meeting notes.
· Review and Checks MTO, Piping Design standards, specifications, drawings and isometrics to Project Piping Lead for issue.
· Executes quality control procedures.
· Distributes shop fabricator and field construction inquiries for resolution.
· Assists in the development of the piping engineering project completion report.
· Review and Check the Report for various outputs (e.g. Piping MTO, Insulation schedule, Valve list, Bolt report, Weld report, Weight etc)
· Review and check the Nozzle orientation drawings as per the Piping Layout requirements and status Reports of Modeling
· Updating the Equipments as per the Data sheets & Vendor Drawings and Inter discipline comments (IDC)
· Maintain the Modeling progress list of Equipments and Piping Line list.
· Raising the query to other Discipline with relative the Piping requirements.
· Selection of Supports to matching as per layout and stress load, modeled the supports using the MDS (Multiple design Supports), Issuing the Iso`s to Stress Analysis Calculation, and Iso issued to Approved for Construction. Updated the Client Model Review tags.
4. Key Requirements:
· Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree
· At least 10-year experiences working on with offshore and/or onshore projects from the permitting and design phases through end of project (conceptual and/or basic and/or detailed design)
· Must have been in Consultants’ organization for at least 3 years in similar position.
· Must be Senior Piping Designer/Checker in at least 2 successful projects in FEED/Detailed Design for Offshore Oil &Gas Platform
· Making the detailed plan for training Client’s Piping designers on job and also overseas to develop the engineering capacity.
· Excellent interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style (in English)
· Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines
· Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented
· Application knowledge of client’s systems and programs
· Ability to accurately apply codes and regulations
· Ability to coordinate with all disciplines, extract and relay relevant information for complex projects
· Ability to write reports not requiring significant editing
· Ability to identify risks
